Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Button at button.bitgate.dev, operated by Bitgate, Inc. ("we"). By creating an account, pairing the Button runner, or paying for a plan, you accept them. They are written to be read.

The service

Button turns a program on your own computer into a web form that people you invite can run. You install the Button runner on your computer and approve the tools it may run. The programs run on your computer, not on ours. Our servers handle sign-in, tool pages and invites, and pass form values and files between the browser and your computer.

Accounts

You sign in with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email address, and one account belongs to one email address. You're responsible for what happens under your account and on the computer you pair with it, so keep your email and your computer secure.

A workspace has one owner and one paired computer. The people you invite get access to the tools you share with them, and nothing else in your workspace.

Plans and billing

Button has a Free plan and a paid Pro plan, billed monthly or yearly. Current prices and limits are on the pricing page. Payments are processed by Stripe as the merchant of record (Stripe Managed Payments).

Pro renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel from Billing in the app, and Pro stays on until the cancellation takes effect. Downgrading deletes nothing: while you're over the Free limits you can't add tools or people, and usage follows the Free limits. The people you invite never pay.

Your tools and content

You keep ownership of your scripts, the files you and your colleagues upload, and the results your programs produce. You grant us the rights needed to store them and pass them between your computer and the people you share a tool with; that is the entire service.

You are responsible for the programs you publish and for what they do. Button doesn't sandbox them: a tool runs under your user account, with the same access you have. Only publish programs that are safe to run with any value the people you invite can enter, and only invite people you trust to run them. You must have the right to process the data that goes through your tools, including other people's personal data.

Acceptable use

Do not use Button for:

  • running programs on a computer you don't control or aren't allowed to use this way;
  • distributing malware or getting other people to run it;
  • phishing, credential harvesting, or impersonating a service you don't operate;
  • child sexual abuse material, which is reported to the relevant authorities, not just removed;
  • doxxing, or processing someone's personal data without the right to;
  • anything that infringes other people's rights or is otherwise illegal;
  • attacking, probing, or overloading the service, or evading limits, suspensions or plan restrictions.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend a tool, a runner or an account, or end an account, at our discretion, with or without notice, in particular to stop abuse or protect the service and other people. Repeat abuse forfeits the account, including its subscription, without refund. Report abuse to abuse@bitgate.com.

Retention

Uploaded input files are deleted 24 hours after a run ends, and result files and run logs 7 days after the run. Download the results you want to keep. Account data, tools and run history are kept until you ask us to delete your account. The privacy policy has the details.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We aim for reliability but offer no uptime guarantee or SLA, and runs depend on your own computer being on and online.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or lost business, arising from the service or from programs run through it. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and using Button after a change means you accept the new terms.
