Turn your script into a web form your colleagues can run

They install nothing and never pay. Button is free for 1 tool and 3 people, Pro is $15 a month, and every job runs on your own computer, where the script already works.

How Button works

Set it up once on your computer. After that, colleagues run the script from their browser whenever they need it, and you stop being the person who runs it for them.

  1. Install the runner

Sign in with Google or a one-time email code. The app gives you one command with your pairing code; run it on macOS, Linux or Windows.

  2. Pick the program

In the runner's setup page on your computer, choose the script and describe what the form asks for: text, numbers, yes/no, choices and files.

  3. Publish and share the link

Invite colleagues by email. They sign in, fill in the form, press Run and download the results. Nothing to install, nothing to pay.

Step 1 is one command

The pairing code comes from the Button app after you sign in; it works once and is valid for 10 minutes. With it, the installer pairs your computer, starts the runner in the background and opens the setup page. Every plan connects one computer per workspace.

What your colleagues see

A bookmark instead of a setup guide. They open a normal web page with the form you described, and the job runs on your computer with everything your script needs already in place.

The page you can send them

  • Open the invite link and sign in with Google or a one-time email code.
  • Fill in the form you designed, with Ready, Busy or Offline right next to the title.
  • Press Run, wait for it to finish, then download the results.
  • See only their own runs. No terminal, no installs, no setup guide, no bill.

What colleagues can and can't do on your computer

You are letting other people start a program on your machine, so Button is strict about how that happens.

  • Only the command you approved

The runner starts only the command you approved on that computer, pinned by a hash together with the form. Change either and it needs your approval again, and colleagues confirm the new version.

  • Values are arguments, not code

Every form value reaches your program as its own argument. There is no shell in between, and values can't start with a dash, so a value can't become an extra command or flag.

  • Only people you invite

Colleagues sign in with Google or a one-time email code, using the address you invited. You can revoke access any time or let it expire.

  • Every run is logged

Each run is recorded with who started it and when, so you never have to guess who ran what.

  • One at a time, 30 minutes max

Your computer runs one job at a time, and a run is stopped after 30 minutes. Closing the browser tab doesn't cancel a run that has started.

  • Files are deleted on a schedule

Uploaded files are deleted 24 hours after a run ends and result files after 7 days.

Your program runs under your user account, with the same access it has when you run it yourself. Button doesn't sandbox it, so publish what you'd happily run for these people yourself.

Security in detail

When Button is the wrong tool

Jobs run on your computer, so it has to be on and online when someone presses Run. Each run gets up to 30 minutes, one at a time, with files up to 25 MB each (8 files and 100 MB per run).

If the job takes hours, chews through big datasets, or has to work while your laptop is closed in your bag, put it on a server instead. Button is for the script that already works on your machine and that other people keep asking you to run.

Pricing

Free is $0 for 1 tool, 3 people and 100 runs a month. Pro is $15 a month, or $144 a year ($12 a month), for 50 tools, 250 people and 5,000 runs a month.

The people you invite never pay. Payments go through Stripe as merchant of record, and downgrading deletes nothing.

Questions people ask

What kind of scripts can I put behind a form?
Anything you can start from a command line on your computer: Python, Node, R, PowerShell and shell scripts, or a compiled program. The form can ask for text, numbers, yes/no answers, choices and files. The script runs with the interpreters, packages and settings already on your computer, so you don't rebuild anything.
How do I install the runner?
Sign in to Button first; the app shows the install command with your pairing code, which works once and is valid for 10 minutes. On macOS or Linux run curl -fsSL https://button.bitgate.dev/install.sh | sh -s -- --code <PAIR_CODE>. On Windows, in PowerShell, run $env:BUTTON_CODE="<PAIR_CODE>"; irm https://button.bitgate.dev/install.ps1 | iex. Replace <PAIR_CODE> with the code from the app.
How does my script hand results back?
Button gives your program an output folder for each run. When the program exits with code 0, the files it wrote there that match the outputs you declared show up as downloads on the tool page.
What happens if my computer is off or already busy?
The tool page shows Ready, Busy or Offline next to the title. Button runs one job at a time per computer and doesn't queue runs, so a run started while your computer is Offline or Busy is turned away. Your colleague can try again once it shows Ready.
Do my colleagues need to install anything?
No. They open the invite link in a browser and sign in with Google or a one-time email code, using the address you invited. They never pay, on any plan.
How long do you keep uploaded files and results?
Form values and files pass through our servers on the way between the browser and your computer. Uploaded files are deleted 24 hours after a run ends and result files after 7 days. The privacy policy covers everything else we store.
Who makes Button?
Button is made by Bitgate, Inc. Questions go to bart@bitgate.com and security reports to abuse@bitgate.com.
